This first floor room seamlessly blends gilded-era opulence with modern cottage comfort. Large windows illuminate the gorgeous hardwood floors and dramatic exposed beams, and the Schumacher wallpaper features a wispy, relaxing botanical print. Complete with a king bed and an updated en suite bath, Room 1 is as comfortable as it is classic.
Called ‘The Cleftstone Room’, one of our largest — and certainly our most ornate — guestroom lives up to its featured role. Gorgeous original woodwork from wall to wall, floor to ceiling, pairs with a dazzling toile to create a captivating space you’ll not wish to leave behind. Unique and striking without detracting from the room’s more traditional merits, the toile pays homage to Japanese woodblock prints of waves popular in the 1800s, telling the story of a ruler fleeing into the night followed by a flotilla of small wooden boats, all of which traverse a stormy sea guided only by paper lanterns. Simply put, this first floor room is befitting of a building as rich in history and steeped in lore as Cleftstone.
This warm and relaxing first floor space invites you to delight in your perfect Maine cottage experience. A soothing botanical print by Shumacher pairs harmoniously with an upholstered king bed, and the richly-colored hardwood floors and exposed beams add a touch of old-world character.
This cozy first floor room is one of our favorites! Somewhat eclectic in style and bold in color, Room 4 has more than its share of flair, yet remains impeccably relaxing. Just outside its many large windows, leaves rustle wistfully in the breeze while sunlight searches its way through, dappling the space in a peaceful meeting of highlights and shadows which gently dance their way around the room.
This first floor room features its own sunroom! Warm, bright, and decorated in a classic cottage style, relaxation comes especially easy to guests of Room 5.
This spacious first floor room offers its own exterior entrance and features a striking black and white toile by Schumacher. An inviting king bed and a delightful en suite bath complete this splendid ensemble.
Featuring a spellbinding wallpaper that, while edgy, is evocative of Cleftstone’s classical heritage, this eclectic second floor room is truly a space to behold! The unique wallpaper pattern is complemented by plum-colored accents around a wall of charming built ins set within an arched recess, and the room receives excellent afternoon light from its large windows. With its sprawling king bed and rather roomy en suite bath, this second floor room will make you want to move right in!
Located on the second floor, this cozy room packs a big punch! Upon entry the elaborate samurai wallpaper is sure to impress, and the en suite bath offers a spacious glassed-in shower.
Colorful and eclectic, and thus a favorite of ours, this light and sunny corner room is positioned at one end of the second floor. With its inspired décor, a brand new en suite bath, and a charming sitting nook, you will be hard pressed to find a more pleasant place to relax than Room 9.
Cloaked in a soothing shade of green and complete with an updated en suite bath, Room 10 is located on the second floor. A somewhat shadier room with rich accents, this space evokes the serene feeling of a quiet trail through the forest.
A second floor room with a detached private bath, Room 11 is a favorite of ours. Finished in natural shades of pink accented by porcelain lamps and charming illustrations, this room feels a bit old world in all the right ways. A pair of beautiful antique chairs positioned within the bay windows tie everything together, and they happen to be as comfortable as they are attractive.
Featuring an outdoor balcony as well as an impressive botanical wallpaper by Cole & Son, it’s tough to argue with Room 12. A second floor room with plenty of windows, a generous amount of space, and an en suite bath, Room 12 not only provides ample grandeur, but will also ensure that you feel right at home during your time in Bar Harbor.
Decorated in a nautical theme with something of an eclectic spin, Room 13 is on the second floor with a detached private bath. If coastal cottage with some flair is what you’re going for, Room 13 has you covered!
This second floor room at the far end of the building is quite large, featuring a sitting area equipped with two chairs, a couch, and a desk. Complete with a king bed and an en suite bath, Room 14 is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a little more space.
Cottage style at its finest! This third floor room is warm, light, and breezy with its sunny botanical wallpaper and all its charming nooks and slopes. If the Maine summer cottage experience is what you’re after, Room 15 is the one for you!
High up on the third floor, Room 16 offers a private balcony with views of Frenchman Bay and Schoodic Peninsula. A spacious room with a comfortable king bed, a cozy sitting area, and a roomy en suite bath, Room 16 is a perfect spot to return for an evening of relaxation following exciting days in Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park.
Situated on the third floor, the “Tiffany Blue” room is on the cozy side but has an upscale feel to it. Furnished in a somewhat unconventional style and topped off with antique illustrations depicting fashionable gentlemen of Cleftstone’s day, it certainly would not be unfair to say we indulged in a degree of whimsy when we decorated Room 17.
Draped in a downright gorgeous Cole & Son toile in the most magnificent shade of lavender, Room 18 is an absolute pleasure in which to spend time. Located on the third floor, the first impression this space makes will make you soon forget the couple flights of stairs.
